I don't know what I'm doing!

For the few people who actually regularly view this blog, this isn't big news. My posts are random, inconsistent and allover the place which is absolutely because I don't know what I'm doing yet. Everything is a work in progress and I still feel like I'm floating around in fashion land looking for my place. Hopefully that process is interesting to someone because right now that's where I am and I intend to be fully honest about that. I don't know how long I'll be spending in the abyss before becoming more focused. When I get my eyes on something to go after, that's certainly what I'll do. Right now this is just one big experiment. I think I've been afraid to admit that to myself because in general I'm a person who likes to know what I'm doing and feel in control. Also, I definitely think that for a while now I've been paralyzed by fear. Of what? I'm not sure exactly. Fear of failure maybe, but fear of success definitely. This applies to all areas of my life, though. I've been coasting the whole way just doing enough to be good and comfortable but always keeping myself at arms length from anything that is excessively awesome or exciting. When I start to do well at something I always stop as soon as I get any attention for it. I'm realizing the attention is what terrifies me. Whether good or bad, people noticing me is always an extremely uncomfortable thing. Compliments are the most difficult thing to swallow. If someone insults me or discourages me its easier to dismiss, but compliments seem dangerous and frighteningly powerful. I think I'm afraid of what they could turn me into. This fear has been holding me back in general, but also when it comes to fashion specifically. Being afraid of attention definitely shows in my wardrobe, and likely body language and of course in my artwork. (and blog.) So I guess this post is mostly for me to admit this to myself. I can't solve a problem until I admit it exists.

I think its time to turn the page.

Maurices

Bought a few things from maurices.com and thought I'd share/review.

From the picture I was a little worried this dress would be too short on me, as is often the case with most dresses I see online but I figured I'd chance it since I could just return it if it turns out to look like a shirt on me. That's happened before with online purchases because I'm about 5'8" and for some reason certain online shops make dresses for little people only. The length is perfect though, and overall it fits pretty well for such a cheap dress. My only complaint is that the waist wants to sit a little high on me, but with the use of the belt I can kinda keep it where it goes, lol. Oh, and one of the little dumb thread belt loop things was torn out when I got it, but that's an easy fix.

This is just a good basic denim shirt, and I liked the wash of it better than most I've seen lately. Its a great shirt. I thought it was kind of odd that it came tied in a big knot, literally. Is wrinkly a thing for denim shirts? Folding is out of style? lol Whatever... I photographed it as it came out of the bag.
(Same shirt I'm wearing with the dress above.)

This pink skull shirt I thought was pretty cute. And I still think so now that I have it. I do wish they'd used a better quality lace for the shoulders though. I might find some and change it out if I'm ever bored enough. Not sure if its worth it, but somehow I think it'll get holes in the shoulders and I'll end up replacing it either way before too long. Its the cheapest feeling dumbest lace you can think of really. It looks okay but as soon as you touch it you can tell its cheap crap. Its also worth mentioning that it is more sheer than you'd think from looking at the site images.

Also got these shorts which are super, super cute. They are apparently already sold out of these, though. Sorry.

Favorite Things Friday

These. Are. So. CUTE.

Oriol Angrill Jordà

These babies.

It just gets funnier the longer I watch it.

This is the best side dish maybe ever.
I wish I could remember where I got the recipe so I could give credit.
Cantaloupe and Avocado Salad with honey-lime dressing
Ingredients:
3tbs fresh lime juice
4tsp raw honey
2tbs olive oil
1/2tsp coarse sea salt
1 cantaloupe (3 lbs), quartered and seeded
1 avocado
1 cup cherry or grape tomatoes, halved

Instructions:
- In a large bowl, whisk together lime juice, honey, oil and sea salt; set aside.
- Cut each cantaloupe quarter in half lengthwise. Run a knife between the flesh and the skin of the melon, discard skin. Slice each wedge lengthwise into 1/2" pieces.
- Cut each avocado in quarters lengthwise and then into 1/2" thick slices. Add cantaloupe, avocado and grape tomatoes to bowl with dressing and toss to coat.

This is so true.

You don't have to wonder anymore.
This actually is the cutest thing that ever cuted on the internet.

This color palette is one of my favorites.

These are paper sculptures!

Songs that build.

Happy Friday!

Oopsies.

So I'm not a very good blogger yet. I still forget to put things on here instead of just on my Facebook. Oopsies.

So here's an update:

I received some lovely cupcake pictures on my birthday, that did indeed make me smile. So thanks! (Late submissions are perfectly acceptable if you have the urge, btw.)
I also chopped off a couple inches of hair.

I got some surprises in the mail, too.

Got lovely little herb garden from my mom and step dad.
Isabelle is trying to eat it, of course.

An adorably hilarious book from my Gma.

I also received a kindle fire! Like whaaat? Thanks to my Husband!
Still trying to figure out how to use it, lol.
So far I can read my books, which I guess is the most important thing.

In other news, unrelated to my birthday, I remade this peplum top I got at target.
It was shaped like a box and had giant armholes so I decided to buy it anyway as
an experiment to see if I could fix it.
(The skirt is also from Target.)

I can think of no better way to close this post than with a Bianca yawn.

A Biffy Day Request

I don't usually make a big stink about my birthday. Since the husband joined the military most of them are spent alone anyway, which is something I've adapted to. I like to take the day to reflect on the past year and make plans for the next. I may get myself a gluten free cupcake and a haircut, but that will probably be it for partying, lol. :)

In honor of "Biffy Day", (which is a holiday in case you didn't know) I strongly urge you to go buy yourself a cupcake and shove it in your cake hole. You're welcome. If you can't find a cupcake at least some form of cake.
If you actually do it, you'll earn yourself some awesome points by sending me a pic of you and your cupcake. Post it in the comments, email it to info@biffyrose.com or post it on muh Facebook to make this Biffy smile.

Here's to getting older!

Flower Beauty Review

Flower Beauty Makeup & Cosmetics by Drew Barrymore looked and sounded pretty interesting to me. The website claims this is a line of luxury products they are able to sell at a competitive "drug store line" price point by not spending a large amount on things like advertising, claiming that Drew herself promotes the line with the use of her celebrity name. This sounded like a good idea to me and made sense. After all, I myself heard about this line from Drew promoting it and haven't seen any ads. Despite the fact it is only available exclusively at Wal-Mart, I decided to try it out. (If you know me you know I rarely go inside a Wal-Mart if I can help it.)

Here's what I got:
-Sheer Up Lip Tint in Bare Blush
-Raise Some Brows Defining Brow Pencil in Blonde
-On Your Mark Liquid Eye Liner in Black
-Zoom In Ultimate Mascara in Intense Black
-Nail'd It Nail Lacquer in I Lavendare You

*They were out of a lot of the face products in anything that would even resemble my color so I wasn't able to try any of those. I also didn't get any of the eye shadows because they looked shimmery and I prefer matte.

So I had high hopes for this in the store. I generally avoid lipsticks and lip glosses because I happen to hate the feeling of slimy or gooey lips, and prefer a more natural feel if I use anything. I was surprised to find that this has shimmery glitter in it. It has a lovely texture that isn't sticky or gross feeling and the color is great but the glitter kind of ruined it for me. It made me feel like I was wearing a little girl's pretend lipstick. If sparkly lips are your thing, you might like this.

They were out of "Brown" so I got this in Blonde which turned out to be a good thing since this pencil is actually pretty dark. I like it, but honestly I can't tell any difference from any other brow pencil bought at the drug store. I think this would be better if you could sharpen the tip because it becomes dull and rounded immediately after the first use, and the point of a brow pencil is to be able to make small delicate lines that resemble brow hairs for a more natural effect. This isn't something I'll buy again.

This is the worst of the products I bought. When you first remove the cap the tip gives the impression you'll have an easy time applying the liner but its so dry and inconsistent its nearly impossible to get this on in any kind of sharp line. You can see from the swatch that its like a pen running out of ink. Don't waste your money on this.

The mascara is interesting. It has a knob on the end of the brush with 3 settings. When you turn the knob the applicator tip twists and untwists changing the shape of the applicator. I think its clever, but I don't know if its necessary. Overall I like this, though. The color is intense and the mascara doesn't really clump, it glides on pretty smoothly. This would probably be my favorite of these products.

The nail polish is a nice color but, again I can't really tell much difference between other similarly priced brands. Its mediocre at best and a little thinner than I'd like.
